Behind the Lens: Summer Road Trip Through Yosemite, Santa Barbara & Malibu

This summer, Puzzle Apiary is hitting the road.

We're heading to three of California's most iconic destinations — Yosemite National Park, Santa Barbara, and Malibu — on a photography road trip down the Pacific Coast Highway. The goal: capture stunning, original images that will become our next collection of premium jigsaw puzzles.

Why Yosemite?

Yosemite National Park draws nearly 4 million visitors a year — and for good reason. Located in California's Sierra Nevada mountains, it's home to some of the most dramatic landscapes in North America:

  • El Capitan, a 3,000-foot granite monolith that dominates the valley floor
  • Half Dome, one of the most recognizable rock formations in the world
  • Yosemite Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls in North America at 2,425 feet
  • Ancient giant sequoias, alpine meadows, and wildlife that make every visit unique

It's the kind of place where every angle is a photograph worth keeping. Learn more at the Yosemite National Park official website.

The Route

From Yosemite we'll make our way west and south, stopping in Santa Barbara — known for its Mediterranean architecture, pristine beaches, and golden light — before finishing in Malibu, where the Santa Monica Mountains meet the Pacific Ocean in some of the most dramatic coastal scenery in the country.

The drive along Highway 1 connects it all, offering sweeping ocean views, rugged cliffs, and the kind of scenery that's hard to believe is real until you're standing in it.

What This Means for You

Every photo from this trip is a potential puzzle. We'll be shooting landscapes, coastlines, and natural details with our puzzle customers in mind — images that translate beautifully to 120, 252, and 500-piece formats and look stunning framed on a wall when complete.

Keep an eye on our new arrivals this summer. The best shots from the road will become your next favorite puzzle.
