Piece by Piece: The Story Behind Our Pony Puzzles

Piece by Piece: The Story Behind Our Pony Puzzles

Some puzzles are just pretty pictures. And then there are the ones that carry a story — a place, a moment, a memory. Our pony puzzles are the latter.

A Hike That Started It All

Nestled in the highlands of southwestern Virginia, Grayson Highlands State Park is one of those places that stops you in your tracks. The views stretch for miles across open meadows and rocky ridgelines, and the air feels different up there — quieter, cleaner, like the rest of the world has fallen away.

It was on a hike through this stunning landscape that the photographs behind our pony puzzles were taken. Every image was captured through our own lens, on the trails we love to walk.

The Ponies of Grayson Highlands

What makes Grayson Highlands truly special — beyond its breathtaking scenery — is its wild ponies. These gentle, free-roaming animals have called the park home for decades, grazing across the open balds and wandering the trails with a calm, unhurried ease. They are remarkably unafraid of people, often ambling right up to hikers with quiet curiosity.

Photographing them felt like a privilege. There's something deeply moving about standing in the middle of a mountain meadow while a pony grazes just a few feet away, completely at peace. That stillness, that beauty — that's what we wanted to capture and carry into every puzzle piece.

From Pictures to Puzzles

When we design a puzzle, we think about the experience of putting it together — the way an image reveals itself slowly, piece by piece, until the full picture comes into view. With the pony puzzles, we hope that experience feels a little like being there: surrounded by open sky, mountain air, and the quiet company of these remarkable animals.

Whether you've hiked Grayson Highlands yourself or it's on your bucket list, we hope these puzzles bring a little of that magic into your home.
